What does a Direct Support Professional do?

  • A Direct Support Professional (DSP) mentors, teaches, helps, and advocates for people with developmental disabilities. A DSP is paid to provide support to a person with a disability. Support might mean taking someone to the store, helping them prepare food, helping a person with daily hygiene or many other daily activities. It's a job where every day is different, where flexibility is key and the fulfillment people get through helping others is immeasurable.
